"down"有绒毛的意思，"downwear"就是我们抗寒武器——羽绒服。

意为马甲。前者是英式叫法，后者是美式说法。一开始是背心的意思，现在也有穿在外面的马甲。

"proof"有防…的; 抗…之意，类似有："water-proof"（防水）,"bullet-proof"（防弹）等等。"cold-proof"就是抗寒的意思。
