1. Don't use contractions.

用Do not 来代替Don't
have / has not 代替 haven't / hasn't
would not 代替 wouldn't 等等

2. 避免使用 There is /are

例句
There are many development projects that UN suspects.

改为： The UN suspects many development projects. （这句much stronger and to the point）

3. Avoid words ( really, very , so, a lot of)
, find out stronger words.

Many students think university is very hard.
(用difficult代替very hard)

Bill 399 is really controversial. (去掉really会formal和better些)

A lot of time is wasted. (不可数用much代替 a lot of, 如果可数用many代替)

4. 尽量用active voice 代替passive voice

The war was won by the French.
改为
The French won the war.

5. 用 strong verbs

weak verb: He gave assistance to my friend.
strong verb: He assisted my friend.

weak verb: conducted a investigation
strong verb: investigated
