It is impossible to find on Google Maps, but Downton Abbey is probably the most famous country house in England.It is the setting for the hit British TV show of the same name, and its final episode(集) was shown on Nov 9.

After it was first seen on TV in 2010,Downton Abbey kept finding fans worldwide over its six seasons by showing the aristocratic(贵族的)Crawley family and their servants(仆人).

it was set at the beginning of the 20th century,an era(时代) that is only just out of livng memory.But events such as the sinking of the Titanic and World War
Ⅰ made it feel closer“than other period dramas”,said Lisa Moraes,The Washington Post's television critic(评论员).

The lives of the crawley family “reflected a greater format that is there today",as voVogue magazine wrote.There were strict rules about things from what to wear on certain occasions to what to eat first.These rules may have gone away over the years but “the basic etiquette(礼节)reminds much the same”,continued the magazine.

In fact events that happened in people's lives in Downton Abbey in the TV series 1900s showed many modern days themes,such as how to meet someone for the first time and what to do at the dining table.

For example, the show taught the useful social lesson of how to make a good first impression.Since you're judged in the first two to five seconds,“the key to giving great first impression is about controlling your body language, for example you smile,eye contact,starting a handshake.This is followed by a well-groomed(整洁得体的)image and presentation along with your voice”,etiquette expert Julie Lamberg-Burnet told Vogue.

But most importantly, the drama inside Downton Abbey was timeless.People are just as worried about status and family nowadays as they were years ago,said Anne Mattina,a university professor from Boston.

But don't think of Downton Abbey as an upper class story like Pride and Prejudice.The show's writers,Julian Fellowes,made sure to balance the lives of the wealthy with the more modest lives of servants. This get a complete view of events in Downton Abbey and made the show popular with audiences.

“Downton Abbey was a tidy world where everyone knew their place,”Alison Graham,a British television critic,wrote in the Radio Times.Though it told the story of Britain's cruel social history rather than gently, it gave a guide for “an idea of Britishness”, she added.
