If you read many stories about explorers, you will try to think about what is an explorer, what is the spirit of adventure.

Almost all Shackleton's expeditions were unsuccessful when measured by the achievement of his goals. Five failed expeditions to the South Pole in the early 20th century did not stop him from being a great explorer.

An explorer is defined by Wikipedia as a person who travels deep into ***erous or unknown places for the purpose of discovering new things, for example. Explorers are usually the first people from a country or civilization to reach a place. It can also mean adventurer, traveler, professional navigator, etc.

We can see two things from this. First, "to detect something new", the discovery of something new means a great impact on the world; The second is "going into ***erous or unknown places", which requires good human qualities such as courage, perseverance and fortitude.

Shackleton was not the first man to reach the South Pole, nor the first to walk across the continent, but as a pioneer he ushered in an era by showing what was possible.
